Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge 2012 Driver Standings

Our first Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge Winner-

Aaron Steele

The Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge was launched this year to give more drivers the chance to race at Daytona.  The ultimate prize is a race seat in the Continental Series GS class in the GRAND-AM 200 race at the same weekend as the Rolex 24. As the name implies this is a 200-mile race and driver changes are compulsory. The race is being held on the Friday before the Rolex 24 so comes with all the ‘razamataz’ of the Rolex race.

Eligible series for the challenge are: MSV F3 Cup, Dunlop Production Touring Cars, MINI Challenge, Legends, Britcar Production and GT Cup.

Despite many of the eligible series still having races to go Aaron went into his penultimate race weekend at Silverstone needing 58 points to have an overall point score that no one could beat and secure him the challenge win.

Steele had the fact he had has fantastic season so far behind him, before Silverstone he had won 11 out of 14 races so he knew this weekend he would need to show this same consistency. Steele had another perfect race getting pole position, fastest lap and the race win – scoring 140 points towards the challenge and ensuring him the win.

Final point scores will be confirmed after the last race to count towards the challenge which is for Britcar Production at Donington on the 6th of November.
