Running thinner oils in the drive train can dramatically reduce power loss especially at low ambient temperatures. Lightweight race cars with high revving engines will greatly benefit from improved acceleration due to reduced drag. However, if you are running much thinner oils than what is recommended by your gearbox manufacturer you must be vigilant of increased gear wear.
