The Sweet Smell of Success

The annual Carve Carrbridge Chainsaw Carving Competition took place on the 3rd of September. Top chainsaw carvers from the UK and around the world (including entries from the USA and Europe) competed for the magnificent Claymore trophy and prize money.

The event attracted 2,300 visitors – a new record for the competition. We sponsored the event and provided Aspen 2T for the competitors.

With the carvers having a long amount of contact with their chainsaws Aspen provided a much cleaner and safer environment for the contestants to work their magic in. Using Aspen also meant that the larger than usual crowd could smell the sweet smell of wood and not breathe in any toxic emissions.

Carving champ Iain Chambers won the Carve Carrbridge competition for the second time in a row with his ‘Taste of Scotland’ carving – a Scottish totem pole featuring a Scottish terrier, salmon and thistles; crowned with a highland cow.

Iain explained that he had been drawing the carving for the last few days but still had to make significant changes to the design. “I had to think on my feet” he said. Iain also took the People’s Choice prize where the audience votes for their favourite carving.
