The Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco gets a big thumbs up

June 4, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco gets a big thumbs up

from the British F3 and British GT drivers at Rockingham

The British F3 and British GT drivers competing at Rockingham last weekend were keen to give a

big thumbs up to the Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco, and no wonder,

because it is one of the biggest prizes on offer in British motorsport. Every driver in the two series

has signed-up to be eligible for the Award. Currently Alan Simonsen is the highest-placed British

GT driver, holding 4th place in the points table, whilst Daniel Ricciardo leads the British F3 drivers

in 6th place. However, with meetings being held almost every weekend, the situation is

constantly changing and anything could happen before the end of the season.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco is a competition between racers

in high-calibre Sunoco-fuelled race championships in the UK and Europe, namely the Avon Tyres

British GT Championship, the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series, the Radical UK Cup and

the SPEED Sports Prototype Series. The highest point scorer wins a race seat in a Daytona

Prototype at the 2010 Rolex 24 at Daytona race and in doing so will be in a position to win the

race. The point system will include 100 points for a victory, 75 points for second, 55 for third,

down through 10th place. In addition, 20 points will be awarded to both the driver who wins pole

position and the driver with the fastest race lap.

“We feel that the Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco will increase the

awareness of the Rolex 24 At Daytona in Europe by offering one of the biggest and most unique

prizes ever offered to European racers,” said Robin Braig, President of Daytona International

Speedway. “The Rolex 24 At Daytona is one of the most prestigious sports car races in the world,

and this new driver challenge will continue to grow its international prominence.”

At the end of the season, the driver who accumulates the most points will be rewarded with a free

drive in a Daytona Prototype, along with flights and accommodation for the 2010 Rolex 24 At

Daytona. In addition, the winner of the challenge will participate in the January Test Days.

Sunoco will provide race fuel for the prize winner’s Daytona Prototype throughout the Rolex 24

weekend and test. The 2010 Daytona Prototype team will be determined at a later date.
