The driver and team on top of the championship at the time of the 1-3 July event will not only have the honour of representing themselves and their sponsors at the prestigious Festival but will also enjoy the chance to show their stuff against the clock on the famous Goodwood hill-climb course.
“It is a fantastic honour for British Formula 3 to have been invited to take part in the Festival by Lord March and the BARC,” said Lisa Crampton, general manager of championship promoter SRO Motorsports Group, “and it will be fascinating to see which of the teams and which young star of the future seizes the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of such a large and knowledgeable motorsporting audience.”
British F3’s 60th birthday is just one of a host of anniversaries to be celebrated at the 2011 Festival of Speed. Others to be featured include the 100th birthday of the Indianapolis 500 and the first of Jaguar’s seven Le Mans victories, also a 1951 event.
Goodwood Festival of Speed founder Lord March said: “I am really looking forward to having so many great cars and drivers here at the Festival of Speed to celebrate our 2011 ‘Racing Revolutions’ theme. For me it is always magical to see so many of the world’s greatest drivers, riders and machines in action.”
British F3 is sponsored by US tyre manufacturer Cooper Tire and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and Mirror.co.uk
