JEV is British F3 champ

Sunoco Daytona Challenge standings 150810The young Frenchman also extends his Sunoco Daytona Challenge lead.

As if Jean-Eric Vergne – or JEV to his fans – the first Frenchman to win the British F3 Series, didn’t have enough to celebrate, he has also extended his lead in the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge to 108.13 average points.

His closest competitor, Radical driver Ross Kaiser, is up to 93.75 points following his weekend’s racing at Brands Hatch. There was good news for SPEED’s Jody Firth, who – not racing this past weekend, remained on 68.20 average points – crept up a notch to third in the standings. This was at the expense of British GT’s Matt Griffin, who slipped to seventh.

David Ashburn in British GT fills position no. 4 on 64.38 points, while Terrence Woodward and Shaun Balfe, both in Radical, take places 5 and 6 on 63.75 and 62.50 average points respectively.

Do not, however, be too hasty to write off Matt Griffin’s chances. The intricacies of the Sunoco Daytona average points system mean that the racer to take his seat in the Rolex 24 At Daytona cannot be predicted at just over halfway through the Challenge.
