Aaron Steele closes in on Jason Richardson

Steele has powered his way back up the leader board of the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge going from fifth to second place after a perfect point scoring weekend of 2 x race wins, 2 x pole positions and 2 x fastest laps. However Jason Richardson from Mini Challenge is still at the top of the standings with an average point score of 130.

Race one saw Steele gifted an early lead as fellow front row sitter Louis Hamilton-Smith stalled on the grid dropping right to the back of the field. From there Steele never looked back, finishing up 13.288 seconds ahead of Alex Craven who finished in second place taking another 75 points towards the challenge.

After his disastrous start Hamilton-Smith set about catching up the rest of the field from the back with great effect. After lap four Hamilton-Smith had made his way up to sixth. Then on lap eight he clinched the final podium place from Chris Needham who went on to finish fourth taking 40 points.

Steele again won race two capping off a dominant weekend. Aaron led from start to finish, taking the win by 13.144 seconds ahead of Alex Craven, who also enjoyed an excellent weekend securing second place in both races worth 75 points each.

Matt Draper made up the last of the podium places after a great battle with Louis Hamilton Smith. He gained the place from Hamilton-Smith at the start and despite constant pressure didn’t surrender the place, finishing 1.7 seconds ahead of Hamilton-Smith in fourth place to secure his first podium in the F3 cup and 55 points toward the Sunoco GRAND-AM Challenge.

This coming weekend (7^th/8^th May) sees Britcar Production, Legends 600 and Dunlop Production Touring Car Trophy race and also gives those racers who are registered another chance to score points towards the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge.
